About

My grown son asked me if I had a website for my art and I didn’t, so I made this. From the looks of this site, I have a thing for plants. It’s funny, I went most of my early life not paying attention to plants at all. I grew up in the south, and plants grow everywhere including in your shoes and on the side of your house. I think I would have told you I was awareof mold, mildew, kudzu, azaleas and magnolias. Three fifths of those are associated with decay and the other two are nostalgically southern.

Then I moved away and it was like I woke up. First I saw landscape; with a little time, I zoomed in to plants. Now, I love plants. I love knowing and naming them, anticipating their coming, and watching them change through the season. I love the shapes, and the colors, and the absolute excess of energy put into what I read as decoration. I love that in the high desert, you are rewarded when you walk out into what I once called the wasteland (sagebrush steppe). It can seem so dry and dusty but Sego and Death Camas are thriving. Importantly to me though, they are only seen when you are up close and immersed.

So these are my images. They are mostly of flowers and the negative spaces around flowers. I’m not sure what their purpose is, but I am sharing them here. Maybe you will get up close and see something that you enjoy.
